Universal Stuck In Bootloader
Always after reset, stuck on splash screen? Take following steps.
1. On PC download the mtty utility.
2. On device remove USB cable, SD and SIM cards.
3. On PC open ActiveSync and go to file, connection setting and uncheck "allow USB connections". Then press ok and close ActiveSync.
4. Put device in bootloader mode by pressing and holding light(1) and power buttons(2) together and reset with stylus(3). The light button is on the front edge of the phone, near the volume slider(1). In bootloader mode the backlight is turned off, therefore the screen with "Serial" at the top and vX.XX at the bottom is hard to read in poor light.
5. Plug in USB cable directly from PC to device. Make sure not to use a USB HUB. You might see a warning window complaining that an "unsigned" device driver is being attempted to be installed. You will be prompted to either "stop installation" or "continue anyway" - this warning can be safely ignored and so just click on "continue anyway".
6. On PC open mtty utility / software.
7. On PC select USB from the "port" drop-down on the upper left corner of the dialog box and hit OK.
8. On PC you see a blank white screen. Press enter to get "USB>".
9. On PC type "set 14 0" and hit enter. You will see some gibberish on the mtty utility which will again be suffixed by "USB>". Your device will not seem to have done anything and should still indicate "USB" at the top, and "vX.XX" at the bottom.
10. On PC type "task 28 55aa" as in Technical Stuff wiki page and hit enter. This command suppose to "Restores DOC to its original layout". After you ran the command, you will see "WAIT" and wait until you see the command line USB>.
11. On PC type "task 28" and hit enter. You will see:
task 28
DOCInfoTableinitHW+
Binary0 Size: 0x100000
FAT0 Size: 0x4000000
FAT1 Size: 0xA00000
FAT2 Size: 0x2C70000
All Size: 0x7770000
FAT0_ADDR=0x100000,FAT1_ADDR=0x4100000,FAT2_ADDR=0 x4B00000
USB>
12. On PC close the mtty utility.
13. Unplug the USB cable and re-plug it into the exact same USB port again. From this point onwards, you must use this exact same USB port to flash the ROMs of your device, because failure to do so will most probably result in "Connection Errors" at the beginning of the flashing process when the RUU attempts to establish communication with your device. After re-plugging into the USB port, you can then run the ROM update.
14. It will go through the upgrade process with the 3 steps and "completed successfully" on the PC.
15. Remove USB cable and device screen looks like below.
[[[File:1 - 100 percent complete after USB disconnected.jpg]]
16. On device do a hard reset: press and hold the two "-" buttons on keyboard and reset with stylus. After this the screen should show "Press 0 to restore factory default" or "Press X to exit".
17. On device press "0" on keyboard. Then device starts to reboot normally.
Warnings.
1. It works only for "stuck at serial/usb" screen.
2. It will NOT ALWAYS work, if you are stuck at splash screen.
3. You ALWAYS HAVE TO TRY REFLASH prior to trying this, it will help most of the time.
4. It works on HTC UNIVERSAL device type.
Method 1
First download mtty 1.42
1. Take out the SD and SIM cards.
2. Opened ActiveSync and go to file, connection setting and Un-check "Allow USB Connections". Then press Ok and close ActiveSync.
3. Put in bootloader mode (Power* Light + reset) which brings up the "un-backlit" screen with "Serial" at the top and v0.XX at the bottom.
4. Plug in USB cable DIRECTLY from PC to Jasjar (MAKE SURE NOT TO USE A USB HUB). You MIGHT then see a warning window complaining that an "Unsigned" device driver is being attempted to be installed. You will be prompted to either "STOP INSTALLATION" or "CONTINUE ANYWAY" - this warning can be safely ignored and so just click on "CONTINUE ANYWAY".
5. Open mtty utility / software.
6. Select USB from the "Port" drop-down on the upper left corner of the dialog box and hit OK.
7. Then another screen will come up. Hit enter and that will show "USB>".
8. Type "set 14 0" and hit enter. You will see some jibberish on the mtty utility which will again be suffixed by "USB>". Your HTC Universal will not seem to have done anything and should still indicate "USB" at the top, and "v2.01" (or equivalent) at the bottom. You can now close the mtty utility.
9. On the Desktop PC unplug the USB cable and re-plug it into the exact same USB port again. From this point onwards, you must use this exact same USB port to flash the ROMs of your Universal because failure to do so will most probably result in "Connection Errors" at the beginning of the flashing process when the RUU attempts to establish communication with your Universal. After re-pluging into the USB port, you can then run the ROM update.
10. It will go through the upgrade process with the 3 steps and "completed successfully" on the PC.
11. Picture 1 below shows what the screen looked like after step 6 after disconnecting the USB cable, as 100% complete.
12. Then do a Hard Reset with the two "-" buttons and the soft reset button. This brought up Picture 2, which says "Press 0 to restore factory default" or "Press X to exit.
13. I pressed "0" and then it starts to reboot.
Method 2
Steps
1. download the tool
2. disconnect USB cable from your device
3. disable USB connection in ActiveSync
4. reconnect USB cable
5. wait some 30 seconds
6. run the tool
7. If successful, device will boot itself.
Universal is Stuck at Bootloader and it unrecognized
If your PDA does the following
1. Is in bootloader and showing "Serial" on the screen
2. When plugged into the computer, still shows "Serial" on the screen
3. Windows detects the device as an "Unknown USB device"
Actions to take
1. Unplug the PDA
2. Remove the SD Card from the PDA
3. Plug the PDA back in
4. If "USB" is displayed on the screen, then it has worked. Otherwise repeat steps 1-3, but remove the SIM card as well
